RULES AND GUIDELINES
The major in political science requires a minimum of nine courses in political science.
Barnard College courses may fulfill Columbia major requirements; however, BC courses do not follow the Columbia numbering system and
cannot be used to determine the subfield within which a course falls. Also, BC colloquia do not count as seminars toward the Columbia
political science major.
No more than two courses may double-count for two separate majors/concentrations or programs.
A maximum of three courses in political science may be transferred from other institutions, including no more than one AP course. Transfer
credits must be approved by the undergraduate adviser or the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS).
Students must receive a grade of at least C- in order for a course to count towards the major.
A grade ofPass” is acceptable for only the FIRST course taken for the major.
